I know each dog is different, but how do you know when your female is actually ready to be bred to a male (especially without having a male around)?
During Maybull's first heat cycle she showed the tail flagging, "flirting", allowing mounting, etc with my ex's neutered male when we thought she was in her receptive period, but now I only have female dogs..
The progesterone tests at the vet's cost a lot of money and I am not sure exactly how else to tell when she's receptive. I've read a bunch of books/articles on it but they all say different things...
