I have a request of Scott County.
My wife, Lori Riddle Matthews was born in Georgetown and raised in and around the area. Since our marriage in 1988 and my work on the Tent Girl case, Georgetown has become a 2nd home for both of us. Especially since the identification in 1998 of the Tent Girl as Barbara Hackmann. www.TentGirl.com
I am not sure if folks in your county realise the significance of her case. It was one of the very first cases of this type to untilize the internet in the resolution. Now..I work with an organization called the Doe Network...and it has solved and additonal 25 + cases.
The Tent Girl case provided a matrix as you can see by doing a simple Google search on her name.
I have a tribute I'd like to pay to her memory and the continued inspiration that her case will provide to cases all across the world.
At one point I had thought of suggesting a memorial at the cemetery itself. More than just a tribute to her, but to all the lost and found souls in the world. I also considered a marker at the site where the body was found originally along route 25 near Sadieville. Much like a marker you might find where an auto accident had claimed the life of a loved one, except a more permanent type marker.
While there in town last, I drove to the scene from the cemetary. It was on that drive along 25 it dawned on me.
I would like to request an effort to name the section of route 25 between the Georgetown Cemetery and the scene of the crime in Sadieville in honor of Barbara "Tent Girl" Hackmann.
I am not sure how to accomplish this or the proceedure one must take to get that proposal started.
If you doubt that the Tent Girl has had enough of a positive impact on the world to deserve this honor, a simple term search online will ease any doubts. There have been countless articles that have referenced the case.
In fact it was her case that inspired the creation of the state medical examiner office in the first place.

And her case that helped to inspire the state web-site:

Todd [Matthewss] success and his groundbreaking work with the [internet] is what encouraged the Kentucky Medical Examiners Office to develop its own website.

It isn't easy to glean a positive message from tragedy, but in this case, that very thing has happened in her case. She did NOT die in vain. I hope to see her memorialized and continue to pull a positive message from tragedy. THAT is the best way pay tribute.
I hope that some of you can help me see this dream become a reality.
