Posted by Charlie G This presentation of 44 Blues paints a vivid mental image of the events the song portrays. The smouldering rage beneath the surface can be felt approaching its flash point as the woman done wrong goes out in search of her wayward lover. I can feel the sheer unabated terror and the sudden adrenaline surge as he finds himself looking down the bore of that 44. The hair on my forearms stood up on end when John announced that horrific moment with a chilling and haunting wail from his bottleneck guitar--John, that touch was simply "DeVine"! When the sinister growl of the vocals suddenly erupt into a fiery snarl, there's no mistake that the poor Don Juan is at the receiving end of his woman's wrath while she releases the deadly payload. Then once again, the vocals recede back to a soft murmur as she walks away, satisfied that the deed is done. With this song, you scared the living daylights out of me the same way Boris Karloff did with his Frankenstein monster, and Edgar Allen Poe did with all of his novels. Well done, Killer Jo!

I second that, Jo, but since you're my perennial favorite at the Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival, I can't say I'm a *new* fan. When I tried to describe to you my initial reaction to that song at the end of your set last summer, all I could come up with was a pathetic comparison to Mazzy Star with better lead vocals. I think this is the review I really wanted to give you:
