His french sounded like a german speaking excellent french with minor german accent. But e friend of mine saw him on promotion on a french TV show some time ago and told me that Christoph Waltz was speaking prefect french with no accent at all and it seems that he added some german accent to his character to fit the role. I read that he is from Austria.
