We stayed at a very nice hotel that was slopeside because we got a late-season package deal. We would never pay the normal room rates for such a place, but it was fun to be right there under these circumstances. You don't need a car because Whistler is a pedestrian village, and you can take a free village bus to get anywhere outside the pedestrian part. But we weren't quite prepared for the expensive meals -- wow. The Canadian dollar used to be a bargain for Americans, but no longer. It's worth more than the U.S. dollar now, and they sure know how to charge at restaurants. I suppose a lot of it has to do with preparations for the 2010 Olympics. Lots of improvements are going in, so everything costs more. Even though it was mid-April, we had some snowy, wintry days and some pretty good skiing. My dad's health crisis came just as we arrived there, so there were many phone calls and he was never far from our minds, so that concern did color our days there. I wondered if I should cut the vacation short and go see him. But he was in good hands and ultimately, we realized that we couldn't have helped much at that point by being around. He was too out of it and the pro's around him at the hospital knew what to do. Seeing him later on after he was back home was the best thing. He's pretty diminished now but is doing OK, eating better, and was thrilled today to go riding with his caregiver and see the beautiful day.

I forgot to mention about the prom before. Isn't it amazing how things have evolved with proms? They are a more formal and big-deal affair than they used to be, it seems: more preparations, limo, etc., etc. Even a red carpet? LOL I would love to have seen Rachel on her night. Have any photos you can share, Gina?
