Also thought "The Good Shepherd" and "The Departed" were excellent. Did you ever get to see "Letters from Iwo Jima," Louis? That's high on my list to see, as well as "Pan's Labyrinth."

It really surprised me too to see that they expanded it so much here after the Oscar nomination. I know they usually do that with films that get nominated, but to expand from three to seventeen theaters, for an art house-type movie, seemed very optimistic. I think Babel has its niche and its core audience of those who appreciate that type of film, but I don't imagine a lot of people going to the multiplex to see a film that's mostly in other languages. Unfortunately, most Americans don't like to read subtitles, so those movies don't ever do big business. 135
