Posted by Gram on 10/26/2006, 12:42 pm, in reply to "Re: Babel" Louis, what is the 2d Iwo Jima movie that Clint made? I'm only aware of 'Flags...'. I'm not familiar with a lot of Clint's work - just that he seems to have a knack for directing great stories, getting great actors to work with him, and then getting Oscar-worthy performances from them!! lol Anyway, re 'Flags...': there isn't much of any anti-Japanese dialogue here, Louis. It's about the US deciding they need to take this island, the battle to do so, and the flag-raising. Except for a couple of blurry, night attacks on foxholes, I don't remember seeing a Japanese soldier. (They were all dug into the mountain, and had underground chambers and tunnels so the most you are seeing is gunfire, grenades, etc and the damage done to the US guys. Wait, maybe a scene or two showing the soldiers going into their caves after some grenades were thrown in.)

... Dot - that is frustrating. I would have thought DC would be one of the biggies to get advanced previewing. I never have to worry about that here in Keene - I have to worry if some of his pics get shown at all. (FC never showed here, I had to go to Brattleboro, VT, to see it -Twice!! lol)
It was mostly the telling of the effect the raising of the flag had on the Stateside military and political personnel; and the cover-up due to one person's desire to own a piece of history; and the uncaring way they used these young men, especially the Indian.
It makes me cringe to think of all the dying done to allow creeps like these to continue living their despicable, little lives.
Perhaps those who Wage war should also be the ones to Fight in their war (as Achilles suggests to Agamemnon in 'Troy'), bringing along with them those who also believe as they do, whether that number be just themselves, or 100, or 1,000, or whatever. Do you think perhaps then we would be Waging more Peace?
