We would like to take a minute and say thank you to all the incredible competition teams and Certified, Senior, and Master judges who came out on Friday and Saturday to make the 9th Annual Project Host Competition Cookoff a HUGE success. Last year over 99,000 meals were served at the soup kitchen. In addition almost 50,000 meals were served to the after school kids. If this wasn't enough, the Project Host facility also has a culinary school teaching those who are unemployed or down on their luck how to cook and hold down good careers in the restaurant industry. The money raised through this competition all goes back into giving back to the community. All of you who participated know how big the crowds were and I was pleased to hear that many of you sold out of your Friday night "Anything Butt" creations that you sold. Everyone that I spoke with did nothing but praise the event. Thank you to Sally Green, the director who organizes this starting right away for the next year. We want you to know that we started a new award at this event. It is called TOOT YOUR OWN HORN. It is in memory of Mike Horne (who passed away in February) who was a faithful member of SCBA, on the Board of Directors, Photographer in the Upstate as well as Previous Marshal of the PROJECT HOST. The award will be a plaque that will have each year's Anything Butt winner (the one who raised the most $$) name and Cook Teams Name inscribed on it. It will be updated each year with the new winners name and cook team. The tickets from Friday night's competition have not been counted or shared with us yet... stay tuned for that announcement. Also wanted to point out that we had a 16 + winner at this event. Firetower BBQ Jay Thom was the recipient of this award at 16.01. What is so amazing about this is that Jay works at this event primarily by himself. Great job Jay! Well deserved!
An event like this requires so many that it impossible to thank everyone individually. I would like to give a shout out to our table captains, Deb Garrett, Bubba Kesler, William Holladay & Tim Garrett. A huge thank you to Brian Snavely who did an outstanding job teaching at the Novice table. Our District Marshal Don Adkins, and his wife Marsha jumped in an helped whenever and whatever was needed. So Thankful and Blessed with good people who see what needs to be done and jump in and do it! I am blessed indeed and so are the recipients of the money raised from this event. Tony Lindsey, Marshal Judi Lindsey, Asst. Marshal
The entire event was organized so much better than last year. Hats off to Sally and her group for putting this on. Well done. Thanks for the mention. I appreciate the kind words. Even if I did get a little excited!
