FLW is adding South Carolina flavor to the 2014 Forrest Wood Cup with its inaugural Bass & BBQ competition, presented by The State, as part of the FLW Expo outside the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center and Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC, Aug. 15-17. The 35-team BBQ competition is sanctioned by the South Carolina Barbecue Association and will be part of a yearlong points race to find the best barbecue in the state. On Saturday, Aug. 16, fishing fans will have the opportunity to taste South Carolina's best barbecue. A $5 donation will get you five tickets to redeem for samples from some of the teams competing. Awards for first through fifth place will be presented Saturday afternoon just before the Forrest Wood Cup weigh-in at Colonial Life Arena. We will also have state dignitaries judging Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to select the Celebrity Choice Award. All fans who buy sampling tickets will help determine the Fishermen's Favorite Award, which goes to the team that collects the most tickets. The total payout for the competition is $8,000, with $3,000 going to the winning team. On Sunday, Aug. 17, teams will sell barbecue, allowing fans a chance to come back and buy their favorites. The FLW Expo and Bass & BBQ event are FREE and open to the public Friday, August 15 - Sunday, August 17 from 10 a.m. - 4: 30 p.m. Live concerts will be part of the outside portion of the event all three days with Rodney Atkins bringing it home Sunday inside the Colonial Life Arena at 4 p.m. before the final weigh-in.
