Born July 12, 1950 in Bath, NY, he was the son of the late Edson Herbert King and Elizabeth J. King Cheney (Burris). He was also pre-deceased by his step-father, Robert D. Cheney.
Wayne was a 1968 graduate of Haverling Central School and served as a Torpedoman in the United States Navy from 1969-1973.
Wayne was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed his time working for the Corps of Engineers and the Department of Natural Resources. Wayne was a master diver and for many years volunteered on the McCormick Dive Team. Wayne retired from Michelin.
A BBQ enthusiast, during his retirement, Wayne became a certified BBQ Judge and raked Senior Judge for the South Carolina BBQ Association.
In additions to his wife, Wayne is survived by a daughter Kathryn Elizabeth Bulus and his grandchildren, Isabel, Miguel, David, and Ava from Ninety Six, SC.
By his step-children and grandchildren, Christian (Paige) Stegmaier, Grace and Ella of Columbia, SC, Becky (Jason) Strobel, and Hannah of Evans, GA, and Nora (Jay) Coan, Charlotte, and Claire of Brevard, NC.
A brother, Lynn King of Avoca, NY and a sister, Darlene (Don) Howard of Hammondsport, NY.
Nephews, Jason (Nuket) King and Adam (Melissa) King
Nieces, Chelsea (Nick) Xidis and Nikki (Justin) Casagrande
An uncle, Fred (Karen) McGlinchey
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Greenwood State Park.
The families are at their respective homes.
His daughter will receive friends at her home, 105 Cothran Street, Ninety Six, SC.
