Below is the Call For Volunteers that was sent to all registered volunteers yesterday.
If not a volunteer, go to https://operationbbqrelief.org/ and register.
You must be a registered volunteer to deploy.
This is a call for volunteers for our upcoming deployment. Please read it in its entirety.
We are tentatively targeting 9/15-9/29 for this deployment, however those dates could change depending on the situation.
If you are not available to assist on this deployment on any of those dates, then no reply is required. We understand that conflicts do occur and we appreciate even just the consideration.
Operation BBQ Relief will be deploying to feed those in need in the aftermath of hurricane Florence due to make landfall this week as a Category 4 hurricane.
We are now staging equipment in preparation for this deployment and are in need of volunteer registrations for this deployment so that we can hit the ground running in anticipation of serving over 25,000 meals per day on average or more. We need a lot of people to make that happen and your willingness to help is greatly appreciated. The exact location is not yet known because the hurricane has not reached land yet and we don't know the impact area yet. We will be going to where the need is once that is known. It will somewhere from Virginia to South Carolina based on current forecasts.
We do not yet have specific volunteer needs or shifts as the deployment is still very early in planning, however we are beginning to amass available volunteers now so we can hit the ground running. We have advance teams working on plans now while we also stage equipment. The exact location is yet to be determined and will be communicated to volunteers as they are approved for deployment.
All volunteers onsite must be at least 18 years old, registered as a volunteer with OBR, and signed up to this deployment either via the OBR Volunteer app (preferably) or it can be done via the website. P
***PLEASE DO NOT SELF-DEPLOY FOR ANY REASON. YOU WILL RECEIVE CONFIRMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS IF YOU ARE DEPLOYED.***
If you ARE available to help (even for just one day), please follow the steps below so that your official deployment can be scheduled.
NOTE 1: Your official deployment notification will be sent approximately two to three days before your first scheduled date unless your first date is less than two days away then it will be sooner.
NOTE 2: If there is anyone coming with you they must also follow the steps below; each volunteer must be individually registered and logged.
Step One: Register as a volunteer with OBR. This is required to attend any OBR Deployments or Events. It only takes a minute. If you received this e-mail then you are registered and can go directly to step 2.
There are three methods you may choose from (Please enter your registration data carefully and accurately or we will not be able to contact you).
1. Preferred Method - Download the OBR Volunteer app to your smart phone using one of the following links (note using the app allows you to receive deployment push notifications):
1. For Apple iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/obr-volunteers/id1193200138?mt=8
2. For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.operationbbqrelief.obrvolunteerapp
2. Text OBR to 51555 and follow the link that is returned
3. Register via the OBR website at https://operationbbqrelief.org/apis/volunteer/home/registration
Step Two: Sign up to the specific deployment/event. This can be done through the app you downloaded (if you did) or via the website; follow these steps:
1. Log into the OBR Volunteer app on your phone (preferred method; see links above) or via the OBR website
2. Go to the active deployments
3. Click "I'm Available" in the app (you may need to scroll down to see the button)
4. Select all dates on which you can deploy
5. Click "Apply" (you may need to scroll down to see the button)
That is it! You are then both registered in our database (this is a one-time thing now so you won't do it next time) and you are volunteered for deployment. Then you just need to be patient with us as we work through the volunteer logistics. It will be a couple of days before you get a confirmation depending on how the timing on this plays out. But one way or another you will receive a response.
As stated above, depending on when you first deployment date is you will receive an official deployment notification. It is very important that you do NOT self-deploy.
Please also consider sharing this e-mail with your family and friends in case they are also available.
One final ask: We are currently staging equipment in the Charlotte, NC area to allow for easier, faster deployment when the time comes. We are seeking some volunteers in the area that have larger towing vehicles (ideally at least 3/4 ton) that would be available on short notice on either Friday or Saturday to help move equipment to our deployment location once it is known. This could require transporting equipment up to several hours away into either VA or SC that becomes the focused area of need. If you have the vehicle, flexibility, and willingness to fill this role then in addition to signing up for this deployment please also send an e-mail to volunteer@obr.org to let us know and we will be in contact with you. Again, please understand this requires flexibility with the ability to deploy on very short notice in the general Charlotte, NC area.
Thank you for your consideration!!
