Thank you for signing up to judge the 2018 Spartanburg Hub City Hog Festival, in Spartanburg, SC, on Saturday April 7th. This event will benefit Mobile Meals of Spartanburg.
This is a two meat event (Butts and Ribs), with an option for cook teams to turn-in Brisket.
The judges meeting will start promptly at 9:00 AM & will take place in the lobby of One Morgan Square, located at 100 Dunbar St. This is the same building we’ve judged-in, the past two years. The building isn’t clearly marked but the best location to park is in the Magnolia St. Parking Garage. The best address to use is a store located directly across from the entrance of the garage: 136 Magnolia St. Spartanburg, SC 29306.
We have 45 teams signed-up, so we’ll open the turn-in windows as follows: 10:00 AM (9:45 – 10:15 AM) for Butts, 11:00 AM (10:45 – 11:15 AM) for Ribs and 12:00 PM (11:45 AM – 12:15 PM) for Brisket.
Please be aware that N Church St. will be blocked off, for the cook teams, from E/W Main St. to E/W St John St. Dunbar St. will also be blocked off.
On Friday night, April 6th, there will be a Chicken Wing cook-off, judged by First Responders. For Judges interested in coming out on Friday night, we can use all the support we can get, to help with the judging process. If interested, please let me know. With the first turn-in at 5:45 M, you’ll need to be in attendance no later than 5:30 PM. NOTE: Please consider taking downtown Spartanburg rush hour traffic into consideration before committing to support.
If you'll be receiving an apron or hat and haven’t notified me or posted it on the website when you signed up, please let me know so I can be prepared to present it to you.
If any of you have a family member that is cooking with a team, I need to remind you that you will not be able to judge in this event but we can assign you to other duties to assist.
Also, please remember not to fraternize with the cook teams or enter their cooking area on Saturday morning, until all judging is officially over. After all judging has been completed, I encourage you to go out and talk and thank the cook teams.
The awards ceremony will be held at 3:00 PM, on the Main Stage, at Morgan Square. The square is adjacent to where we will be judging. Please make plans to stay if you can.
Lastly, if you are signed up for this event and are unable to attend, for any reason, I ask that you please let me know ASAP because we are counting on your attendance.
Don and I both look forward to seeing you all on Saturday.
