CONGRATULATIONS to SCBA Judge, Eddie Leach who advanced to Senior Judge and received his hat.
Thank you to our table captains, Pamela Brubaker, Don Adkins, Steve Meadows, Gene Benfield, & Ben Semmes. A special THANK YOU to Joe Standridge & Teena Bohm who were our wonderful Novice table instructors. Michael Bohm served as the calculator for the event. Don Adkins was there to help facilitate as well as the event photographer. Marcia Adkins manned the receiving table and kept accurate records. Your dedication to fairness and consistency makes this a wonderful organization. I cannot forget our 4 runners. We also had a group of about 50 “celebrity” judges who helped us judge on Friday night.
We had a slew of gifts donated for door prizes which we gave out at Cooks meeting, Celebrity Judges, as well as the SCBA judges. Included were gifts from Jeff Lynn Appliances, Restaurant Depot, Krispy Kreme, Extreme Tees, Carolina BBQ, Bucky’s BBQ, Smoky Dreams BBQ, and Ace Hardware. T shirts, mugs, sunglasses, coffee, gift cards, tools, Royal Oak, wood chunks & even a gift certificate worth up to $150.00 for products. (So much more that I cannot list all) We were so inundated from people who were willing to donate, that we were not able to pick them all up and we have actually started on door prizes for next year’s event. (See why we love Mauldin SOOIE?)
Thank you to City of Mauldin who along with Waffle House provided breakfast: Waffles, bacon, sausage, orange juice and hot coffee on Saturday AM. This was a wonderful treat for both cookers and judges.
Judi and I consider it a real privilege to serve as Marshalls for this event. It was wonderful to see the “seasoned” pitmasters assisting the new pitmasters with equipment and necessities. We feel so blessed to a part of this SCBA sanctioned Event. A successful event like this does not just “happen”. It takes a dedicated team working diligently together to make it successful for a whole year learning each year from past mistakes. From the City of Mauldin this annual opportunity for the residents, the cookers providing their expert cooking skills, and the judges providing savory taste buds, and HUNDREDS of volunteers, it all came together as planned. Hope to see you again next year at the 8th Annual Mauldin SOOIE BBQ Cook-Off Festival!
THANK YOU ALL of doing what you do so well. You are the BEST!! There is no doubt about it… SOUTH CAROLINA IS THE BBQ STATE!
Tony Lindsey, Marshal ¬- and Judi Lindsey, Asst. Marshal
