For the last year or two we have had a discussion of what would be the best number of events that the SCBA should require for the MBA/SC State Championship contest. For some years that number has been pegged at twelve (12) contests per year.
The SCBA Board of Directors has considered that number and for the year 2015 the number of contests required has been set at ten (10) rather than twelve.
The original MBA was designed to encourage teams to visit and cook in some of the smaller events. Towards that end the MBA contests have worked well. With the advent of the SC Legislature designating the SCBA as the group that names the SC State Barbeque Champion we continued that number at twelve contests per year. However, in order to encourage more teams to try to reach the minimum number it has been suggested that a more realistic number of contests per year might be ten.
So, as an experiment the SCBA will lower the number of events a team must enter in 2015 to ten rather than twelve. If it proves to be successful, that is, if it actually does encourage more teams to try for the championship then it will remain at ten. The SCBA Board will review at the end of 2015 to decide if the number required should remain at ten or revert to twelve.
Good luck to you all and we’ll see you on the barbeque circuit!
