Hi Cathy!
I am at the tail end of my two year journey of getting implant supported Overdentures. My journey started when my remaining teeth, which were baby teeth, all started getting loose with no hope of tightening back up. I don't have second teeth or they are too far down to come up. I have 4 implants in top jaw and two implants in lower jaw. I also had bone grafting done to both jawbones on the day the implants were put in. The overdentures look very similiar to dentures but they are less bulky than dentures and they have snaps on them to snap onto the implants. I don't have my final overdentures yet. I am wearing temporary ones right now and so far so good! I am not sure what they do when it's implants for one or two teeth. Yes, they can do the bone grafting at the same time as they do the implants; but I am not sure if they will give you temporaries to wear or a flipper. I was given a set of temporary dentures to wear soon after my surgery. I think it was about 3 or 4 days after my surgery. I think your two new front teeth will look beautiful!!! Your Prothodontist or Dentist can match the coloring to your other teeth. You can even have a choice in what color your new teeth will be. I'm still getting compliments on my teeth and people are amazed when I tell them they are still just the temporaries! As for the exspenses, you can talk to your dentist about putting it on a payment plan. I used Care Credit which is allowing me to pay it all off in one year. Yes, the financial aspect is a worry. I can't wait to pay my last bill next month! I have been living very frugally for 2 years now while I pay off this bill; but it has been worth it. I had no other option once my baby teeth all started getting loose. I am not a candidate for regular dentures due to the shape and size of my mouth and I am not a candidate for the implants that stay in all the time for the same reason. I would never be able to clean in all the nooks and crannies due to the size of my mouth. So, I am getting Overdentures that can come out at night for cleaning and be put back in easily.
Good luck to you! Keep me posted on how it's going for you. I hope you get other replies too; but this site is not as busy as it used to be. If you google About Cosmetic Denistry Message Boards look for a site that says Members5. I forget the actual website but it's Members5 something and click on that. That's another neat message board for dental advice. It's very supportive also.
