Hi Everyone!
Tomorrow marks 7 weeks post op for me and I am FINALLY getting excited about my full set of temporary teeth and long awaited overdentures once healing is all done. Today, I had a prothodontist appointment where I received a new set of upper teeth since the ones that were originally made for me gave me too gummy of a smile and I had reported that I thought the bite was a bit off. I am thrilled with the new upper temporary dentures so far! They are so much more comfy than the first ones! Tonight for dinner, I ate zucchinni, red pepper, fish and mashed potatoes. I could not eat zucchinni and red peppers with the last temporary teeth. My tongue is no longer fighting for space in my mouth either. The new denture is a tad smaller than the other one was. Wooohoooo, I had told him it was too bulky the first week but he told me I would get used to it. I never did. He had this one made smaller for me. I am sooo relieved right now to be more comfortable and so relieved that some of my relatives who had doubts that I wasn't trying hard enough can now see how much better I am doing! I saw my Oral Surgeon last week for my one month check up and I will get X-rayed in early September to find out if I am all healed up and if the infection in the right upper jaw is gone and then he will be able to give me a timeline for getting the implants put in my upper right jaw as well as when the lower overdenture will be put in. The top overdenture will be put in 3 to 6 months after I heal from the the implant surgery in my upper right jaw. Whew, I can't believe this is finally coming together and I am really getting excited! My top overdenture will not have anything along the roof of the mouth!!!! I can't stand the temporary teeth having something along the roof of the mouth. Thankfully my prothodontist was able to design it so I could tolerate it.
Very relieved here now that I am seeing progress after 6 weeks post op. I was really getting worried about my lack of appetite and chewing ability. At 48, I am not ready to live the rest of my life on soup and blended up stuff as much as I do like them. My prothodontist told me that a lot of people lose their appetites because they lost their taste due to the teeth. I agreed with him wholeheartedly and knew that is what happened to me. It just takes time for the taste to come back. I am really happy my new temporary teeth are sooo much better and that my prothodontist did listen to me and made the necessary adjustments without telling me he was going to. Thanks for reading this. Patti
