Hi Michelle,
I haven't gotten to the abutments yet. I'm still healing after getting my remaining baby teeth extracted (13 of them), bone grafting of both jawbones and implants placed in all but the upper right gum on May 31st. I will get the implants put in the upper right jaw in 3 to 6 months once they know an infection has cleared up in there and around that same time I will get the abutments put in the lower jaw and get the permanent overdenture placed in the lower jaw only. I have to wait another 3 to 6 months before I get the permanent upper overdenture. The prodedure on May 31st was done under general anesthesia. Like you, I like to be totally out of it when it comes to certain procedures. I don't know yet what it will be done under when I get the implants in the top right jaw since the extraction and bone grafting were already done up there so it will just be a matter of putting in the implants. I will cross that bridge when when I get to it. IV sedation is good. I had that for other procedures in the past. In the meantime, my focus is adjusting to a full set of temporary false teeth. I do believe I am making progress and I am very happy about the little milestones even though I still have a long way to go with getting back up to the amount that I did eat before the surgery. But, today I actually felt hunger and didn't just eat for the sake of putting nutrition in me. I enjoyed most of a burger without a roll and some potato salad for my practice with chewing solid food. Keep on posting your questions and concerns. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised just how smooth and well your procedure goes. I know I was shocked I had no real pain after mine....just some head pressure that was caused by all the work they did and the infection they cleaned out.
