Hi Sharon,
The original plan was for me to go home with temporary teeth in my mouth. But, my oral surgeon decided to give me a week without teeth to let the swelling go down since I was already not looking forward to having teeth on top of sore and swollen gums. Then he found the bad infection in my upper right jawbone and that just finalized his decision about not sending me home with teeth. I'm getting the temporary teeth on Wednesday. And then in 3 to 6 months, I will get the bottom overdenture snapped on and also will get the implants put in upper right jaw around that time. Then another 3 to 6 months after that I will get the upper Overdenture. My overdentures will snap in and out and will come out at night for cleaning. My dental team decided I was not a candidate for the kind that stayed in due to the fact that I would not be able floss all the nooks and crannies due to the shape and size of my mouth. Oh, I found out the other night that my oral surgeon said that the toughest part of my surgery was putting in the 200 disolvable stitches. 200!!!! He said my baby teeth came right out and I knew they would. They were all loose.
So far so good with recovery. I just have a bit of a headache that is more like sinus pressure than anything else. The swelling and bruising is going down. My gums don't hurt at all like I thought they would. I stopped the Vicoden and just take Tylenol as needed when the pressure gets too annoying. I'm also on an antibiotic for the infection which I am hoping is going to take away the headache pressure as well as Aleve for the swelling and also a mouth rinse twice a day. I'm still on cold and soft stuff but looking forward to Mashed potatoes on Monday. That's when I am going to try warm soft stuff.
Sounds like things are moving along for you and going well. I'm glad! Keep posting your own experiences with your new teeth.
Patti
