Implant Overdenture Surgery

Hi Everyone! I am new to this forum and I'm hoping there are a lot of supportive readers out there who are wearing an implant overdenture and will post some enouraging words to me. I'm scheduled to have dental implant surgery (both jaws) at the end of May and when healing is all done will have an Overdenture put on the implants. It will be a 2 hour procedure done in an outpatient surgical center under general anesthesia. My oral surgeon will be extracting my remaining teeth, doing some bone grafting of both jaws and putting the implants in. I'm also getting a cyst drained that is on the roof of my mouth. I will wake up to a set of temporary teeth already in my mouth. I know everyone is different but I would still like to read your experiences. My questions to you are: 1) By having to wear temporary teeth right away, is it going to be very painful? I can't see wearing teeth on top of sore and swollen gums. When I said this to my oral surgeon, he smiled and said, "That's why I am going to put them in when you are still on the OR table and you will wake up with them in." 2) What should I stock up on to eat during the recovery time? My oral surgeon says to just think of cold and smooth. As of now I am thinking of ice cream, yogurt, pudding, applesauce, jello and protien instant breakfast drinks as well as the usual cold beverages for thirst. Any other ideas? 3)What can I kind of expect the first week post op? How bad is the discomfort for most of you? Is it possible to be much better by day 2? Or is it more like 4 days or a week before you are feeling more comfortable again. 4) Once all healed up, was it easy to get used to your overdenture? That's about it for now. Thanks for readig this.
