I have never gone under general, but I just asked around for you. I was told that in order to avoid nausea &vomiting, do not eat anything for atleast 12 hours prior to surgery. I was told that this greatly reduces the chance of feeling nausea or throwing up. Also, from my own experience, stay away from vicodin unless you've taken it before and know that it does not affect your stomach. After I threw up due to the vicodin, I was told that nausea & throwing up are very common side effects for vicodine. Also, buy lots of soda prior to your surgery like 7-up, cola. My pharmacist said that soda is easier on the stomach than water. After my episode with the pain medication, my pharmacist told me to stay away from water as it actually increases nausea. She said to drink soda in small sips if possible. Ok I hope this helps you and also please know that I'll be thinking of you and that you will get through this.
