It's been done!! My dental implant surgery was last week and the surgery went well. I had three implants done in one day. The actual surgery took about one hour. (very quick in my opinion). After the surgery, there was very little bleeding. This was a big relief for me, because I hate the taste of blood!! There was some pain right after the surgery...more on that later in this message.
The bad part was that I had a bad reaction to the pain medication that was prescribed by my Dr. I was given Vicodin prescription by my Dr. for the pain. Well, I took some and I was throwing up all night!! (and most of the next day) I called my Dr. and the Pharmisist, and they said that severe nausea and vomiting are very common side-effects with the Vicodin. So if you are going to get an implant surgery, please be aware that Vicodin can cause severe nausea and vomiting. (Please ask your Doctors if you are concerned- this was my personal experience)
Other then that, the actual dental implants did not really hurt other then that first day. There is some soreness and it still feels a little bit strange. I took Tylenol and was okay. Also, I am still on a soft-food diet. I have a follow-up appointment next week. For now, I just have to wait until my implants fully heal, then the abutement and teeth can be placed. (By the way, one of the implants was an extraction and implant on the same day) I am so surprised at how little it hurt considering that fact. I had a previous extraction that was extremely painful, but this one wasn't! It actually hurts a lot LESS then an extraction!!
After getting the procedure done, I can say that I would recommend it. It's not as scary as it seems.
