different than most Gene collectors since I have only ever collected AD Gene repaints. Not a lot of people seem interested in seeing them and I understand that. I try to comment on other posts when I can, but since not many people are posting there isn't much to respond to. A Catch-22!

Thanks for the comments. Anne is the closest to the reality. This board may not be "winning" the busiest board award but it is the friendliest, classiest of them all. It is mostly for people who do not feel the need to check it every two minutes in case something important has already dropped out of the first page.

This board is more a "museum" where people can take the time to look at a post, a photo, a nice comment. Things are not lost in between hundreds of for sale posts and no nasty comments are allowed here.

So it is slow, like a peaceful art gallery where no one screams or shouts but where everyone feels safe to exchange a comment here and there.

I agree that this board is very different than the others... and I hope it stays that way.

and new pics of Gene, who will always be my favorite doll.

Gene was the first doll my mother and I really enjoyed together! Mom loved the clothes (especially from the 1940s and 1950s) and, for five years until she left us in October 2000, she gifted me with a Gene doll for my birthday and Christmas. Those dolls remain with me and will be passed on to others in my family later on.

Love seeing old (and new) online friends here as well and hope to get back into taking some pics sometime soon. In the meantime, I enjoy seeing the efforts of others who do take time to share their wonderful pics.

I love this board. I love that I can post here and feel safe, that I am not going to come back later and find a snarky response to whatever I have posted.

That is because Denis has taken a stand that this will be a place of civil communication. He has taken heat for that. And I thank him for that, and his willingness to act on it as needed.

Denis gives us this board while running a full time business. In this economy, the business must consume vast amounts his time. And that would mean that we- and not Denis- can decide if we want to run a theme. I have currently been running with a backdrop theme. In the past, I had great fun running a "Treasures From the Past" theme. It ran for a month and took hours and hours to do. And it got other people posting and remembering.

What I'm saying is Denis gives us a wonderful, safe place to play.

What we do with it is up to us.

The numbers at the bottom of each post show that this board has a lot of lurkers, even if many do not post.

So come on guys- COME OUT AND PLAY!

When there aren't hardly any responses to photos I post, why bother to post them here. ( I am guilty of that myself too )That's the cause of it, the lack of responses to eachother. And also the fact that there aren't any new Genes coming out, the excitement is gone I guess. Many new dolls are coming out, I started collecting vintage Barbie and Silkstone again, and Fashion royalty, perhaps the board should change to many other dolls, more variety, new excitement, new inspirations....

even though she was the first large Fashion Doll, made of a material that could be "played with"! I enjoy seeing all the others because, in a way, they are her "decendents"!
