My Mom's Story, In loving memory...

My Mom was born in 1915, the youngest girl in a family of 5 children. Her Dad died in a farm accident when she was 16. She left school and went to work as a maid to support the family. Here is Mom at 16, in her maids uniform. My parents married on May 1st in 1944, shortly after Dad returned from the war. This is Mom shortly after they married. She looked so young. This is Mom shortly before she passed away in 1988, almost 5 years to the day after my plane crash. Mom had Alzheimers. At the end, her soul had already gone to God. Her body just waiting to catch up.

We were attending a Quilting Seminar at Fair Gardens. When we returned on May 20th, our plane, a single engine Cessena, lost electrical power, the engine froze and we landed up in a tree. I was hit in the back by luggage and hung up on my seatbelt. I have been a wheelchair user since then. We survived because of that tree. If we hit the ground with a full tank of gas, we would have burned up! I consider that a miracle.

My beloved paternal grandmother had Altzheimer's disease...it was sad seeing her regress...she was in great physical health, but had regressed mentally about as far as a person can before finally passing away...I still "talk" to her and miss her terribly...I have no doubt that she is up in heaven, playing heaven's version of a piano, and the others there are marching to her music (she loved playing marches...she played for Eastern Star as well as our church for many years)...yes, her delightful soul was in heaven long before her body caught up...thank you for that phrase! And thank you for the wonderful testimony of your mother...

It's sad when this happens to people we know and love. Later in life, my parents argued a lot. Dad was with her to the end. They are buried next to each other. When there is a storm over the Cemetery, I like to think that they are having a little "discussion". I too, "speak" to my parents daily and always ask for their help when I am at wit's end. It's important to keep the good memories and forgive the rest.
