I usually end up combining them to get what I want. I also make patterns from existing pieces. What I have found is that none of the patterns fit perfectly or the way I want so I end up making muslins for anything I care about. And I have found some amazing tutorials online for hats and shoes etc.
I am really having fun sewing for Gene now that we can't get anymore new outfits for her. I love being able to take the time to get what I want. But the hunt for fabrics can be both frustrating and exciting. Living in upstate NY makes the hunt very difficult but the internet is a huge help.
So glad you brought this up Dennis. Sewing for Gene has become a great relaxing hobby for me. I will post some pics when I get the nerve to show my stuff. LOL There are so many amazing designers and seamsters on the boards that I feel pretty intimidated but I still enjoy it.
