What bike should I start with

I am looking to take the ABATE rider ed course, and I am also wanting to buy a first bike. I am 5'11" and about 170lbs. I have never ridden before, but I really want to be cool like Brendan Kearns. I know this will be tough, but could anyone recommend a good bike to start with. My budget is around $2500 for my first bike. All advice is welcome. Michael Bedford
