The snow started out last night as dry and powdery which would have been fine, but then it turned to a snow/sleet/freezing rain mix this morning. So there was two inches of snow with a thick ice crust on top. There was still a light mix falling in the afternoon while I was shoveling so I put down ice melt on the porch, walkway, sidewalk and surrounding the car which is parked on the street in front of the house. With the weather I didn't go back to the hospital today. My little Corolla would have slipped and slid. My sister has an SUV so she visited for a while in the afternoon. The roads have been salted again so hopefully tomorrow's sunshine will dry the roads despite the cold temps so I can visit for a while in the afternoon. I'm glad I was able to grocery shop and gas up the car yesterday evening before the snow started.
All the delicate plants were taken in and are in the basement since they can't tolerate overnight lows under 20 degrees.
On the 6 pm news the meteorologist reminded us it's 63 days until the start of spring.
