Re: happy new year- Heidi
My mom went from being someone who was walking with a walker as recently as late September-early October to someone who has been hit with too many infections that made her weak and deconditioned so she's not able to walk anymore. Pre-food tube insertion she was sleeping in a daybed and sitting up using pillows to prop her back up on the daybed's main railing with her feet touching the floor most of the day and evening daily. Now with the feeding tube she can't lie completely flat anymore, so now she's stuck in a rental hospital bed here at home. The bed my sister from Virginia slept in when she visited was just a futon she bought a while back that was given away to friends, so the daybed is now the new guest bed and had to be dragged into another room by me a couple of weeks ago. All these changes have thrown my mom's body off kilter. She came home today and the physical therapist will be here tomorrow to work with her legs, feet and arms to help deal with the stiff joints and edema caused by physical inactivity. She was prescribed a water pill in the hospital so that helped with the fluid buildup.
