My mom is better today and is now home napping before dinner. This bacteria was a serious infection, a strain usually found in healthcare settings and facilities. It's possible she picked it up from a previous hospital visit to the old hospital or even at the in-patient rehab facility. It can cause sepsis and even be fatal for seniors and those with compromised immune systems. The old hospital was only focused on looking for e. coli infections and not much else. So they totally missed this. They really dropped the ball which is why we're completely starting over with a new healthcare setup. Next week a new primary care doc who does home visits will start coming to the house. Tomorrow the first visiting nurse visit will be set up, with PT and OT soon to follow. This bacteria can make people very sick and it can take weeks or even months to fully regain strength.
