I read this post several times and even checked out your site. I just tend to do be curious about other rescues and their practices...you always have new things to learn. Anyway, I read your statement and have to agree with some in part...I guess my biggest concern was that once I opened your site and looked at your horses they are ALL bred mares. Are these mares papered?? Do they have points on a circuit?? Can you tell me why you are so against slaughter when your obviously contributing to an overpopulation problem by breeding your mares rather than purchasing one that is looking for a home because someone else bred their mare and no longer wants the foal?? I also noticed you said that your black mare was bought thru auction and you bid against the meat man. If she was already in that sort of situation why would you then bring her home and breed her?? I dont understand all the backyard breeders. They say the will always keep this foal...thats why they breed. I want a baby from my horse cuz I love her so much....blah blah blah... There are far too many horses heading down the road in slaughter trucks now for me to EVER consider breeding for more foals to continue to overpopulate an already flooding market. I realize you are supportive of stopping slaughter but you must start in your own backyard first. DONT BREED...EVER!!! My rescues are NOT allowed to be bred whether they are papered or not. I dont care what kind of bloodlines they have. There are way too many now. I commend your plight for slaughter-bound horses but please also take a small piece of advice and please dont add to the over-population. Im sorry if my words stung a bit but I just dont understand the double standards given to stop slaughter by those who are breeding. Just my 2 cents...nothing more.
