I have three horses and their heads are always down in the grass constantly eating. My personal opinion is to call your vet, have him checked out. Its the safest way to go. You will only be out the cost of a vet bill (I know sometimes not cheap, but when you have pets, you know this) and if he is ill, then you will have started him on some type of antibiotic etc and caught it in time. There could be so many reasons, but most likely a vet will be able to detect the problem, whether it be an infection or bad teeth. Good luck and God Bless
