We had an opportunity to catch up with Lloyd Bozeman at the inaugural runnning of the Hawkeye Bird Dog Club NBHA trial south of West Liberty, IA last weekend. Lloyd came out to judge the event on Saturday as a favor to Ryan Eichelberger. Lloyd has a couple nice English Setters in training with Ryan.
As most of you probably know, Lloyd and his lovely wife Ruth owned and campaigned the HOF setter sensation Boseann's Mosley ("Rocky") - only dog to win or place in all of the then competed all age Derby championships. Bozeann's Mosely was a notable sire and some of his blood can be traced to the competitors of today. Lloyd was even asked by the aristocracy in Sweden to present in person his thoughts on breeding as the Crown was trying to bring back the quality of Swedish English Setter bloodlines. They used "Rocky" as part of the effort.
Lloyd also judged some very big stakes around the U.S; championships for the pointer and setter circuits as well as German Shorthair and other breed championships. Lloyd maintained winter grounds in Mississippi for years and continued to hunt and run dogs across the country. He related that it had been a couple years since he had been on a horse but he seemed to fit right back in the saddle.
For many years, Ruth and Lloyd supported the NBHA Futurity - nominating many litters and coming to watch them compete. Ruth by the way underwent open heart surgery recently and is still recovering at home in Illinois. I am positive she would love to hear from old friends and those of you who may not know the Bozeman's personally but have an interest in the Setter breed. Her e-mail is:

Thanks for taking the time to read this and shouting a hello to Ruth and Lloyd - real contributors to our sport.

Thank you for the nice article on my parents! They have done. A great job in the promotion of English setters in filed trials. I'm proud to have them as my parents.
