: Funny story, funny to me anyway. I saw an
: amateur handler put his dog in front of him
: on his horse and carry the dog across a
: fairly large water hazard, Doc Flanagan was
: judging and he told the handler to pick his
: dog up. "Why," the handler asked
: and Doc explained. The handler's response
: was, "Dave Grubb does that all the
: time." Doc's reply was, "You
: ain't Dave Grubb!" as he wheeled his
: horse and rode away.
Doc's "response" was couched in my language. I'm pretty sure that Doc said, "You're not Dave Grubb". For some unknown reason I've always liked using "ain't". And I've never yet fallen into that bucket of paint!
You know the old rhyme, taught to me over 75 years ago - "There was a little boy who said ain't, who fell in a bucket of paint. When he got out he said with a shout, isn't and aren't NOT ain't!" Harry
