I don't want a handler to touch their dog when they approach a point unless it is to relocate or to collar it away. I consider that training/correction.
After flush and shot... do whatever you want with the dog once you have put your hand on their collar....
I ain't watching for anything except delayed chase.
FWIW, I am also not a fan of a handler looking at their dog in the eye and hollering WHOA immediately before going in to flush. I won't pick up a dog because of it...but you just made placing that dog a whole lot harder IMHO.
