: I had a real good setter derby back in the
: day. He was by Flaming Star x Harry
: McIntyre's old pie b###h, M's Blue Heather.
: I called him Bandit as he had a black mask.
: He jumped a deer in a workout on Joe
: Cannon's grounds in central PA. Long story
: short, the deer made it across the highway,
: he didn't. Broke my heart, I loved that
: guy, raised him in the house from 8 weeks
: on. I'm sure all you setter guys know how
: loveable a setter can be - he was that in
: spades! After that, I switched to pointers,
: bought Countercharge from Gene Uhlman when
: he turned pro and the rest is (ugh) history!
I switched to pointers because I didn't think I could stand losing another setter. I did lose a decent young pointer to a truck a few years later and although it saddened me, it didn't tear me up the way losing that young setter did. Probably part of the reason I took up ECS. They're kinda like smaller, short tailed setters but there's little or no danger of losing one on a highway. First of all, they don't run very big and second, they come when they're called!
