You got it right about It's about finding a lost dog.I use it in training as my dogs reach on out in the prairies I hunt and work dogs. The Garmen I had that was burnt up in the massive Anderson Creek fire. All my dog equipment guns, in fact, everthing burnt up.
In trials, I have not gone to many as there are few wild bird only trials nowadays. I just detest throw down or pre release trials. When I go my dogs ready and I plan a win.Arnett Okla The Z Bar In south central Kansas and Fort Cambel KY is about all that's left.
I already own a smart phone and these units are reasonable.I doubt if these units will meet the weight limit of 9 ounces. If I would get a good dog ready and go to a trial I bet I could get a loaner or just run without it like we used to.I also lost a great winning dog in the fire which kind of slows me up.I got frozen semen with him so I could be back later on.
Lots of grasshoppers and we have had lots of dew on the prairie and timely rains bird doggen should be good this year.Hope you have a good one.
: So will you be handing your smart phone/tablet
: to one of the judges to hold while you run
: your dog? If its lost are you prepared to
: pay the cost of a new i phone/tablet? Will
: the smart phone/tablet be in the completely
: off position?
: Will you bring the issue of this device to
: the AFTCA as well as the American Field and
: get their approval before you proceed? You
: may find that you will spend a lot more than
: a device already approved.
: The point is to find a lost dog; not to be
: a tech sophisticate.

: I will be needing a new GPS fairly soon.I
: notice an ad in the Pointing Dog Journal
: about the Laelaps GPS tracking collar. You
: use the smartphone or tablet for the
: handheld.Just wondering if any of you folks
: have used this unit and what you think of
: it. I have always used a Garmen but the
: price of the Laelaps is reasonable if it
: performs well.
