I'd suggest a lot of these apparent saddle fit problems are in fact caused by the rigging's position on the saddle. The rigging migrates (usually) forward and carries the saddle away from where it would otherwise fit the horse just fine. I've now got the rigging modified just a little bit on my trooper so that it runs in a straight line down from the edge of the front arch. When the girth is positioned right into the narrow part of the horse,just behind his leg,the saddle sits -and fits- as it should,and even when the girth is loose,the rigging and the saddle stay put.
