Posted by Marty Couple injured in crash of ultralight craft BY RICK RUGGLES A Council Bluffs couple's flight to an aviation-club cookout ended Saturday in a trip to the hospital after their ultralight craft stalled and slammed into an embankment south of Papillion. Kevin and Anne Rutland attempted to land about 11 a.m. on a private, grass airstrip just east of 84th Street and Capehart Road. Creighton University Medical Center declined to give conditon reports on the Rutlands. Witnesses said Anne Rutland suffered pain to her ribs or side and a gouge to her ankle or foot, and was stunned. She was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital. Kevin Rutland, who injured an arm, was taken by ambulance. An ultralight is a small, light aircraft. The Rutlands took off Saturday morning from Missouri Valley, Iowa, in their ultralights. They planned to participate in a cookout at the Papillion-area airstrip with other members of the Experimental Aircraft Association. (see link below) Link: click here for the on-line article

I was shocked when I read this in Sunday's Omaha World Herald.
I'm sure a few of you know Kevin & Ann from ANUG.
I hope they have a speedy recovery.

Sarpy County deputies look over an ultralight craft that crashed into an embankment south of Papillion on Saturday, sending Kevin and Anne Rutland of Council Bluffs to the hospital.
Witnesses said the Rutlands' aircraft had either run out of gas or experienced mechanical problems, because the engine was off as it swept over a cornfield to land. It lost altitude as Kevin Rutland attempted to place it onto the airstrip.
