Posted by Frank Heinisch This is a major air show. Over 10,000 are expected to attend each day. Over $70,000.00 is invested to bring war birds for display. The air show will be over four hours including the flyover of a B-2 on Sunday and reinactment with WW II equipment, air support with a B-17 and P-51 and pyrotechnics galore. Ultralights will be on display. See full details at Fillmorecounty.org then select the air show information. ULTRALIGHT OPERATION We are extremely cautious about maintaining a safe atmosphere for flying at Fairmont State Airfield. On both days Young Eagle flights will land or takeoff every 4 minutes from 8:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on runway 17 - 35. There will be radio controlled model aircraft flying from 11.30 A.M. to 12:15 P.M. At 12:15 P.M. the air show will close the airspace until 5:00 P.M. After the air show the Young Eagles are taking off or landing every 4 minutes until 6:45 P.M. The Nebraska Department of Aeronautics has required that the following be observed by ultralight (including powered parachutes) operators: 1. No passengers, no selling rides. 2. Operate only in the assigned areas. In addition for the safety of all, the following guidelines shall be in effect at the Fairmont State Airfield on June 14 & 15, 2003: 3. All ultralight pilots shall sign in and attend a pilots meeting at the west Side of the Young Eagles Hangar (the South T hangar) directly following the air show before flying. 4. Ultralight flying shall be after 6:00 P.M. 5. No ultralight flying shall be on runway 17 35 nor in the approach or departure air space. 6. No ultralight flying over crowds. 7. Ultralight flying shall be under 500 feet in altitude above the ground within five miles of the airport. 8. The ultralights will be limited to using the northwest 500 feet of runway 12 300.
