Charlie Schuler was not a member of HUC to my knowledge. My guess is (1) He had a health problem (2) He had an equipment failure or (3) He ran into a wind shear problem. The wind began to gust just after he took off, but was in the 10 to 15 mph range.|

: One man killed in plane crash
: BURWELL, Neb. (AP) - The pilot on an
: ultralight airline was killed when the
: plane crashed near a feedlot about a mile
: northeast of town.
: Charles E. Schuler, 75, of Taylor was
: identified as the victim of the Saturday
: morning crash, said Garfield County
: Attorney Dale Crandall.
: There were eyewitnesses that saw the Rotec
: Rally 2B plane lose altitude rapidly and
: dive into the ground, he said.
: Crandall saw the plane flying about 10
: minutes before the crash, but did not see
: the plane go down.
: The Federal Aviation Administration was
: notified but does not investigate
: ultralight plane crashes.
: "We really don't know and probably never
: will because there won't be an
: aeronautical investigation," Crandall
: said of the cause of the crash. "It
