LACK OF PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND HIGH COST OF CERTIFIED MAINTENANCE LEFT TILL ANNUAL OR NOT DONE, THIS WILL EQUAL MORE DEATHS. FAT ULTRALIGHTS ARE USED FOR AREO TOW OF HANG GLIDERS AND ULTRALIGHT SAILPLANES. AERO TOW OF TANDEM HANG GLIDERS HAS WORKED OUT GOOD FOR HANG GLIDER INSTRUCTION. AREO TOW IS A GREAT WAY TO GET ALOFT AND IS GOOD FOR COMPETITIONS AND INSTRUCTION; SEVERAL ULTRALIGHT FLIGHT PARKS MAKE THIS THERE BUISINESS. THE TRIKE COMPANY THAT I DEAL WITH HAS MANY DIFFERENT MODELS COMBINATIONS OF MOTORS, WINGS AND TRIKE FRAMES (EXAMPLE 4X4X3=48), THIS IS JUST ONE MFG. A SPOT PILOT INSTRUCTOR WOULD SPEND LOTS OF TIME AND MONEY GETTING SIGNED OFF IN DIFFERENT MACHINES THAT HE MAY SELL, OR INSTRUCT IN, THAT ALL FLY THE SAME. S-FAR: SPORT PILOT AND A SECOND LEVEL S-FAR: ULTRALIGHT AIRCRAFT TWO-SEATERS MAX 496 POUNDS EMPTY WEIGHT, 86 MPH TOP SPEED, AND FAT SINGLE SEATERS UP TO 360 POUNDS EMPTY. NOW NEAREST WEIGHT SHIFT BFI TO ME IS 3HR. AWAY, NEAREST AFI 6 HR. AWAY. SPORT PILOT WILL MAKE ACCESS TO WEIGHT SHIFT INSTRUCTION HARDER DUE TO HIGHER COST IN INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION AND SPORT AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATION.
IN 2001 WE LOST A NEW CLUB MEMBER AND WEIGHT SHIFT PILOT DUE TO LACK OF INSTRUCTION AND CLOSE INSTRUCTORS. WITH SPORT PILOT A PERSON LOOKING FOR PART 103 INSTRUCTION WILL BE MORE LIKELY TO FLY WITH OUT GOOD INSTRUCTION DUE TO THE LACK OF CLOSE ULTRALIGHT INSTRUCTORS, THIS WILL EQUAL MORE DEATHS.
2. PART 103 TANDEM INSTRUCTION,
ENABLES THEM TO TEACH TANDEM (2 PLACE), THE BEST AND SAFEST WAY TO LEARN DEVELOPED OVER 25 YEARS OF HANG GLIDING AND 100 YEARS OF GENERAL AVIATION. BACK TO THE OLD WAY WILL EQUAL MORE DEATHS (UP TO 40 A YEAR IN THE SEVENTIES). A SPORT PILOT INSTRUCTOR WITH HANG GLIDING EXPERIENCE WILL BE HARD TO FIND, AND THAT A WEIGHT SHIFT SPORT PLANE IS NOT A FOOT LAUNCHED HANG GLIDER, AND IS PILOTED DIFFERENTLY. BACK TO THE PROBLEM FOR INSTRUCTION FOR PART 103 LEGAL FLYING MACHINES!
FORCING ULTRALIGHTERS AND ULTRALIGHT INSTRUCTORS INTO FASTER AIRCRAFT IS UNNECESSARY AND DOES NOT NECESSARILY IMPROVE SAFETY.

PART OF PART 103 INSTRUCTION IS TO TEACH A VERY GOOD PREFLIGHT, PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, AND MAINTENANCE.
