Posted by Pippa Coxon I always thought that "Malta" was the Swordfish"..wow..Barracudas..God love him, it was like getting blood out of a stone. I think what I need to share with anyone who is 'still alive that my dad taught to fly is...that...he had huge infractions for dangourous landings...days when he was banned even..while in training himself. I can't remember the exact words, as my brother has the originals now..but I remember...something like this:...He was soooo grounded while training....and then I saw in his log with pride at the end of his training..."an exceptional pilot" . By the way, my father lied about his age when he joined the Fleet Air Arm. The last words my Father said to me was:

I am Cdr Coxons' youngest daughter, Philippa Jane. I am known as Pippa. I have been so moved by the testimonials made by the brave men who served with my dad.
My father never spoke about his achievements or losses. He was silent. He became loud only when , the day after his death, when I read his log books and over 100 men that he had trained turned up at his funeral..
-his books were the most maticulous records I have ever seen. Every sortee entry perfectly enter in black..and Red was always a death.
'Do you have any idea what its like to fly upsidedown over a lighted city'?
Don't guess my answer...it was "no" of course, the saddnes I felt for him right then, my mother only haveing died 4 months before and If I had a way of letting my dad "go", at that moment, I would have. Without flying, bonnie, he felt he was no-one. I wish he could see what you have written about him today. Thank you.
I really never knew my dad untill 812 (and I know many others) squadron members turned up for his funeral..thank you for that, it meant the world to us. If any of you are 'still here, please email, write me.
