I have been in contact with Historic Scotland regarding the preservation of Crail Airfield. To draw their attention to it I sent them a copy of my book on it. They appear interested in it as I was informed that their staff had visited it last year. Unfortunately the owner of the airfield has no interest in preserving its structures and would like to see it developed. A couple of years ago it was suggested that Crail could be re-opened as an airfield but many of the local residents objected to this.Although Crail Airfield is listed as a historic monument there appears to have been a move in Scotland recently to enable developers to demolish such buildings.The Granton Gasworks on the waterfront in Edinburgh were listed but this did not save them from the developers!
