What a shock and surprise to receive a reply to the letter I posted on this site. Thank you for being so precise and showing such attention to detail in what was a sad and distressing experience for you and the rest of the Company.
I had just returned from a visit to an airfield in Northants and wondered about Don's short life in the Fleet Air Arm. I Was 6 Months old at the time for Dad had 'remarried' during the war. It must have been a difficult time for him and I vaguely remember a widow visiting. My other Half-brother,Vic has just passed away. He was a tail gunner in Halifax bombers during WW2 and I have started to look upon Don as the forgotten one.
Well you have stirred some memories and emotions for both of us and to the memory of a brave servicemen and I look forward to future contact if that is OK. I'm from Pudsey yYorkshire by the way! Cheers for now Phil
