H.M.S.Jackdaw was located on the very eastern tip of Fife, next to the picturesque fishing village of Crail.The airfield was situated close to the mouth of Firth of Forth with its runways ending close to the cliff tops.It is about 15 miles south east of St.Andrews. Although the airfield is disused most of the buildings and runways survive today. It is in fact one of the best surviving examples of a Second World War airfield in Britain and has listed status. Unfortunately the local landowner is trying to get it delisted and build houses on the site stating that few people are interested in its preservation!
