I learnt of recent articles in various newspapers, regarding the ex-aircraft carrier, HMS. Vengeance (Minas Gerais)in the Mail on Sunday, The Sunday Times and Daily Mirror newspapers.
Personally, I think it is an insult to the Armed Forces past and present, not alone to this historical ship, that it be used for such purposes as a kiddy's playground and home for asylum seekers.
It is a pity that some people with more money than sense, cannot reflect on what his father or grandfather had to endure to make this Country free for all.
Such articles would be put to better use in trying to save the ship as a floating museum, as a campaign is already under way to do so, but the press seems to be making a mockery of the fact with all these nonsense ideas from idiot's, of what she should be used for. Give this ship the dignity she deserves.
The British Government are not interested in the British Naval Heritage, unless of course it coincides with voting. The Royal Family connections alone, with this ship should mean something to them from 1947, but alas, no one seems to care.
This ship should be saved as a tribute to the Royal Navy and Fleet Air Arm, past and present and give some recognition to the fighting men of the 'Forgotten Fleet' of which HMS. Vengeance is one of the numerous ships of that Fleet. She was a credit to the Royal Navy, her crew to her country and her building to the British Shipbuilders of the day. There are not to many 59 year old fighting ships left today, that are in as good as condition as this one.
So, do something positive with your articles and put them to good use into saving the ship, not demoralising her or her former veterans.
Thank you.
Ron Davis.
