The ships bell of HMS. Vengeance has been returned to the HMS. Vengeance Association from Mana College, Porirua, New Zealand after almost 50 years within the school.
I would like to personally thank Margaret and Ray Brown for all the their lengthy negotiations, patience, time and trouble in making the return of the bell possible to the Association.
Also, thanks to Mike Webster (Principal) and his Board of Trustees at Mana College for their joint decision in agreeing to return the bell to the U.K.
Without the cooperation of all involved, none of this would have been possible.
We are very grateful for the return of bell and part of the ship's naval heritage.
The bell arrives at a Bell Foundry in Nottingham on 22nd April for a clean and polish, before being presented at the 2003 Annual reunion on 25th and 26th April.
Should the ship be returned to the U.K., the bell will be restored to her at a dedicated ceremony and if that is a non-event, then the bell will be donated to the Royal Naval Museum when the HMS. Vengeance Association becomes non-existant.
