Thank you all for your request's for an Update on Calvin's progress.
Calvin has settled in well at the BIRU at Frenchay, where his progress is being monitored carefully, by a very large team of Professionals in many fields of rehabilitation.
Currently Calvin has made a little, slow progress. Unfortunatley he has had some medical issues that have hampered his progress to date, but these issues are now in the process of being resolved, so fingers crossed things will slowly begin to improve. Calvin has also picked up a couple of viruses of late, which at this time of the year, are unavoidable, and with his low immune system, are something that we have to accept are going to be an added problem, through the winter months.
Calvin is still in a state of Post Trauma Amnesia, which is also making his rehabilitation difficult at this time. Sadly there is no medical intervention which will help with this, but it is something that he will come out of in time, when he is ready, but when this will happen, nobody can tell us, so its a waiting game, at the moment.
Calvin's speech is very slowly improving, and he is very aware of, and fully understands all that is said to him, he can follow simple instructions and act on them, which is a good sign, and at times we have glimpses of the Old Calvin, and his sense of humour, but this is hampered by his state of PTA, but once he is out of this state, we think he will make huge steps in the right direction, with the help of his rehab team.
It will be sometime yet, before Calvin is able to come home, but this will happen at some point in time, and we all look forward to this day. We have a long journey still ahead of us, with lots of up's and down's along the way, but we remain strong, and most of all hopeful, that we will come through all these difficulties in time.
We thank you all most sincerely for your continued support, and believe me it helps to know that so many people, are thinking of Calvin and wishing him well, and I will keep you all updated as to Calvin's progress. We also hope that all the injured riders of this 2013 season of racing, are all on the mend, progressing well, and will rest up through the winter months and will be fit and ready to return to racing in 2014, a better year we hope for everyone.
Many thanks Sally.
