So, according to my golf group contact, Dr. Cann was given a three-year contract extension at the special closed session meeting of the board of education this past Tuesday.
Apparently, Dr. Cann told staff yesterday morning that she would be with them the next three years. Congratulations to her.
Now here's the rub. Closed session meetings are held to conduct items of business that are protected under confidentiality rules and regulations as set forth by state laws. It is perfectly legal and proper for the school board to discuss Dr. Cann's contract behind closed doors despite what some social media law school graduates thought.
HOWEVER, no action on items in those closed sessions is official until a public vote is taken at an open meeting of a government agency. In other words, either Dr. Cann, or more than likely one of the board members violated the rules of closed session confidentiality and that is where they she made a big mistake announcing her appointment.
Other board members should be upset that this information was not only leaked but shared with school staff before the announcement was official.
According to our golf partner, there were two votes against the extension of the contract and one abstention due to Dr. Cann being a family member. So, she is retained on a 4-2 vote with one abstention. The newly appointed board member should have abstained based on her insufficient amount time on the board to weigh in on an evaluation of staff.
In more important news, I shot a 76 this morning and won the weekly pool of $160. Mrs. O. will be enjoying dinner at Bela Malano tonight courtesy of my great performance. they did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....

Congrats on the 76 opinionated. I have got a few 76's myself but that was only for one hole. It's nice to know that there is less funny business on the golf course than at the Board of Education meetingsThey have the dumbest of the dumb yelling into the megaphones and leading the other dumbasses.

If they moved to appoint her during a closed session, then a call to the Attorney General could void that appointment. I think. If you don't read the papers, you're uninformed. If you read the papers, you're misinformed. - Mark Twain

Asked and answered. IF they only discussed her contract extension and IF there was no discussion of compensation, they can come to agreement on the extension itself while in closed session.
I was also told that IF, as you suggest, salary for that three years was discussed and agreed upon, you probably have a case.
My issue was someone, and I was told it was a female board member, released the information, it then became a violation of the open meetings act.
Time will tell and by the time we reached that discussion, we made the turn on the back nine and I was on my way to an under 80 score so I told them to shut up and golf. LOLthey did not fail, because they did what their country asked of them....
If you were just a little more pi$$ed, you just might have made that hole in one! LOLIf you don't read the papers, you're uninformed. If you read the papers, you're misinformed. - Mark Twain

Some say the “extenuating circumstances” are that she hit the milestone for her pension to be maxed out, her husband selling his business in Edwardsville and the construction of their new home in Florida.
In conclusion, she’ll have completed 4/6 years scheduled. By my cocktail napkin math, that’s 66.67, or, the letter grade of “D”.
Now let’s see who the schoolboard can attract to fill this role.
Perhaps an actual citizen would feel more obliged to follow through on their contract.
