I left the high school at approx 3:25 this afternoon and there were still lots of kids waiting for their buses, in the front lot and the back. I thought one of the reasons for changing the school start times was so kids would not have to wait for late buses. I was aware that some grade school kids were having to wait for their bus in the afternoon but now it seems the high schoolers are. I would have thought they would have this problem fixed by now. Anyone have any insight into why the a lot of kids are still waiting on their buses to get home in the afternoons? The school has a contract with the bus company. I would think the school and the bus company should have come up with a solution by now. Doesnt the school district care about getting the kids home in a timely fashion? Hell, no, they don't care. I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get from one school to the other so my kids don't get abducted while waiting on me. Wow, here I go again on this subject! Don't get me started.... :-)

I don't think it's his attempt at humor. I think he just finds it funny that you guys can find the stupidest things to complain about. Lisa, apparently your child doesn't ride a bus so what the hell does it matter to you if they run late? Living, any news of abductions this year? If so, we're they caused because the parent couldnt' get between school in a timely fashion? Maybe if you call Dr. Briggs, he'll bring your kids home for you. LivingnGranite--Opie doesnt have any kids in the school district (Gary probably doesnt either, who knows, waiting on his answer.....). Neither gives a rats aXX about children, its obvious. All they seem to care about is not making sure anything negative comes out about the schools. Their opinions dont mean anything when it doesnt have anything to do with them. I have reasons why I ask about the buses or which are none of their business. I think its strange thats it Mid October and the school still doesnt have the late bus situation figured out. It appears as though they simply dont care. I have to laugh at the responses from people who dont have any kids or compare to when they did have kids some 40 years ago. Things are not the same now and they never will be. When my daughter was in the distric, waiting on buses was never an issue, unless the bus broke down. Maybe they need to contract a few more buses? Kids should not have to wait lonf after school to catch the bus. I also would be concerned about a elementary of even 6th grader who had to wait after school for me to get to them because of conflicted scheduling on kids getting out. However I have a child that someone did try to abduct, so I may be more biased than others... I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

I am not saying you don't have legitimate complaints but I am one of the parents that like the H.S. starting at 8:00 instead of 7:30. It just works out better for us at home. When H.S. started at 7:30 a.m. some of these kids had to be at a bus stop at 7:00 am or before. I think that's too early. I like the new time for H.S. I can drop him off on my way to work and it's timed just perfect. I can see if you have kids at different schools it could be a problem. Be who you are and say what you feel..because those that matter don't mind..and those that mind..don't matter.

Ok first off the bus my son is on goes down st clair up myrtle and marshall then warren and other streets then k.p. then some other streets over beside k.p. then back towards wilson school its crazy If you want the rainbow, you must to put up with the rain. While I agree that worrying about a child being abducted at a bus stop is a bit like worrying about the sky falling...we as childless males really have no reason to comment on it..do we Gary? I have had the pleasure of raising children during past relationships, and having had an attempted abduction with one of them while she was waiting on a bus in the Edwardsville School District, just know that it can happen...is it rampant?..not at all... And Opie, just an observation...I know from your posts that in your eyes the sun rises and sets on the GC School Board and the GC School System..as does anyone who has read this forum for any length of time...I really don't think a rant on your part every time someone has a complaint about either one is truly necessary...we all know how you feel. If you have a beef about something, you surely don't hesitate to post it here. And contrary to popular opinion, yours, you really aren't any more important than any of the other posters here. I have no problem with the new times at all, matter of fact, I like them BUT...my one main problem is that they only have 10 minutes between High school and middle school getting out. I just wish they would have started middle school 10 minutes later, that would solve it all. Gary, you are putting words in my mouth, I didn't say they don't care about the children, I said they don't care about getting them home on a timely fashion. They have a word for people like you that take words and twist them, but I cant think of that word right now.

Seriously, given the fact that there are over 7000 kids in the district, how would you go about pleasing the schedules for them to be dropped off and picked up. You want it one way to suit you. Living in West Granite may want it another way to suit them. And finally, Living in Pontoon may want it still another way. So just how do you please everyone? Lisa, I thought by now some of your hot air would go out of that balloon. Yeah, I don't care about kids. Right! The fact is that when you run as many busses as the company does, some will be late. Funny thing is I don't hear too many people griping about it. Must not be too big a problem. And by the way, I no longer have kids in school but I sure the hell pay my share of taxes so you and Living can send your kids there. I'm sure there are reasons why the bus runs late periodically but you wouldn't care to hear those. You only want to put the schools down as often as possible. Kev, from a guy like you I will hear complaints. I don't think the schools here are perfect. Not by any stretch. However, they're not as bad as people like Lisa would have you think. And Living I have friends in the district and I'm damn proud of them and the work they do for kids. Are they perfect? No! Are you? I'll defend the district, my community and my household against those who smear it. I do it with more voracity than most because I'm passionate about saving this community. We hear enough bad mouth from other communities without taking it from within. Kev, if any of this offends you, to you I apologize. You're a reasonable individual. However it seems like Living gripes about schedules because they don't fit her needs. Lisa will never get over her son being punished by a man who has more class in his little finger than she does in her whole body. I've said it before and I'll say it again, anytime the owners of this site think I'm stepping over the line they can call me on it. I respect their authority as the owners of the site. As a possible solution maybe we can ask the district to run another fifteen busses. That should only cost about another hundred or so thousand a year. I'm sure I am not the only parent with this problem, opie, matter of fact, I know I'm not. Just because no one else talks about it on the board, doesn't mean that others don't have the same problem. You have to figure out of the 7000 kids you mention, only a couple of those kids have parents on this board. It doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I do have a suggestion. The school district needs to re-district. It makes no sense the routes that the buses are on. When you have buses for Grigsby that take kids right past Coolidge. Re-Draw the lines and even out the middle schools. Right now there are about 1000 students at Coolidge and only about 700 at Grigsby. Maybe that would alleviate some of the issues with the buses.

A toddler in Granite died from swine flu this week, so I don't think it is only a panic. The school did say that they would send notes home when there were cases, but they have not.... I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

I am not sure if she had received the vaccine or not. She was 23 months old. Her mom and aunt used to attend my church. Her mom was 14 when she had her. From what I know she was a good mother despite her young age. It is very sad. I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

Wasn't it you that said that 36,000 people die from the seasonal flu each year? Those are accurate numbers. The seasonal flu varies by different strains each year. So I am not sure what you are asking. Of those who get it .1% die from the seasonal flu and about .3% die from swine flu. Looking for one of the links I saw this from. Back to buses and let out times for the high school and Coolidge. Just wondering if any of you have sat in the traffic that occurs on 203/Nameoki by Schnucks/Quik Trip/Lam's Garden/etc. It is absolutely awful. If you have somewhere to be in a timely fashion after school lets out (a doctor appointment or such), avoid that area if possible. It is a freaking nighmare. It was bad before but way worse now. The buses don't affect me but sometimes the traffic problem does. If you can't set a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

I think part of the reason they staggered starting times was so Coolidge and the High School did let out at different times so the traffic was not as bad. That being said, traffic is a city problem, not a school problem. PAIN IS TEMPORARY. QUITTING LASTS FOREVER.

The traffic is definitely worse, not better, just my opinion. I had a 330 Dr. appt last week and by the time I got into the office (by Lams Garden) I was ready to pull my hair out. Was extremely aggravating... I do not regret the things I have done. I regret the things I didn't do when I had the chance!

What????????????? So would you propose the schools don't allow parents to bring their kids so the traffic doesn't back up on Nameoki Road? What time would you propose them dismissing, midnight? NO, Opie!!! Like I said before... having only 10 minutes LET OUT times between schools is the problem for more then just me trying to get to both schools. If it was just 10 minutes more, that would solve a bunch of problems. That is all I am asking for, 10 more minutes, I do believe that would NOT be midnight, maybe I am wrong but last time I calculated it, it would only be 3:30 but that's just me.

Sorry Opi. Not backing away on this one. It is indeed the school's problem. These two schools are next door to each other. Change the let out times or move/build another school so they are not so close together. Our tax dollars at work. I have sat in traffic for more than "a few minutes." Why don't you drive that way some afternoon and see for yourself. Ridiculous! If you can't set a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

You were saying the school is to blame for traffic problems that time of day. No matter what time, when schools dismiss there is traffic congestion. So just how would you fix that? And as a side note, I'm sure it's an inconvenience for you to only have ten minutes between school dismissal times. That however, might work well for others. So just who do you inconvenience if you're on the school board. There's an old saying that you can't please all of the people all of the time. In this case, you can't please anyone it would seem. There's no "perfect" solution for everyone so how about just going with the flow and find something really, really important to complain about like a failing economy, a country at war and illegal immigrants flooding this country like rats to a dump. I drive that way all the time. Do I like traffic? NO! Do I like getting stuck behind trains? NO! But guess what, it's part of life. Build another school? I guess the school board can count on you for a yes vote on a bond issue then. And how far apart would you have dismissal? If it were an hour different you would still get tied up in traffic from one school or the other. And how about the kids getting home that much later? All I am asking (which, I don't think is too much) is that they go back to the way it it was with 20 minutes difference in time, that's all. You are right, no matter when ONE school gets out, there is always congestion but let TWO schools right next to each other and BAMMMM... you have a mess. But then again this is just my opinion.

The reasoning behind the change in school dismissal and start times was due to the older kids are more attentive later in the day so that is why they start later.

It wasn't me who did that, someone else said the school never sent home the letter they said they would when there were cases in the schools....someone else said it was only panic......I only responded to posts from others. I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

Chelle I agree, traffic was bad enough when the schools got out 20 minutes apart, but at least then, a lot of the traffic form the one school was gone by the time the other school got out. Now with both getting out so close to one another, the traffic is twice as bad. I know it is probably not something they will address in the middle of the school year, but maybe they will readjust next year. Even if the move the time forward for one school 5 minutes and back for the other 5 minutes, it will be back to the 20 minutes apart. I do not think 5 minutes will hurt the kids or parents and it could solve a lot of traffic issues. I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

LvingnGranite--I agree that older kids do better later in the day and its good they start and end later in the day but only 10 minutes between letting out Coolidge and the HS is just poor planning. When my kids went to Coolidge and I picked them up, I was out of the area by the time the HS let out easily. No problems then, not sure why they cant make similar schedule now, just make it later it in afternoon. Your link states (depending on what category you fit into) you are 2 to 4 times more likely to die from swine flu than seasonal flu. Still dont see the difference? For the largest portion of people...age 18 to 49 it is 3 to 4 times more deadly....I think you are nit picking because you were shown up! the percentage of deaths from 2009-H1N1 was one to two times higher for those between the ages of 5 and 17 and three to four times higher for those between the ages of 18 ands 49, compared to the number of deaths in those age groups due to seasonal influenza in April 2008, April 2007, and April 2006. Well I really dont have anything to say about the buses because I have 2 kids riding them and never have not complained about them running late. The traffic problem is not an issue with me because I am at home waiting for my kids to arrive so I dont drive during that time. And lastly I am not going to worry about the Swine flu Until/or if ever I have to. So the only reason I am posting is in case this post gets that record granny is looking for my name will be in it. eh ehm.....So, I've read about half of the million or so posts on here about the buses and I do not know why the school times were changed, but I heard it had something to do with a study that kids seem to learn better and be more alert if they dont have to get up at the crack of dawn. Now, who knows if thats true, but...the bus company has nothing to do with the time changes. They will NOT add more buses, they've barely got enough drivers to fill the ones they have. PLUS, NONE of the buses are over capacity, so more buses would just cost more money for you parents. All I can say is, NO elementary kids are left waiting at school now because ALL the buses go to their elementary school first. Now parents, tell me, would you rather have your first grader waiting or your high schooler? If its a problem, get out in the busy traffic yourself and pick them up. Otherwise, be thankful your kids are getting a ride.

GC bus driver, We know several people who have no choice but to have their kids ride the buses (they work jobs during the daytimes) and their elementary kids wait on their older siblings to get home from school to watch them until Mom and Dad get home from work---my concern has nothing to do with start/end times of school but the fact that many high school kids that have to wait on buses have younger siblings waiting at home for them...and obviously these younger ones are home waiting longer because many high schoolers are still waiting for there buses 20-25 minutes after school is out. No doubt your thinking, no big deal, young kids can wait another half hour or so for their older siblings to get home. What I am saying is the school should have had this problem fixed at the high school level a month ago. BTW-my kid(s) dont get the luxury of riding a bus, never had, so although it doesnt affect us we know several familes that the late buses do. If the buses are not to capacity maybe they need to redo some routes so the buses can get to the hs on time. The bus company which is paid on contract by the school district which is paid for by the taxpayers need to be proactive not inactive in coming up with a solution to this ongoing problem. And Lisa, what would be the "pro-active" way to fix this problem? Add busses? Let's see, that would add cost which would be passed to the taxpayer. How about stagger the schedule so high school kids get home an hour earlier than their siblings? No, that wouldn't work. The state mandates so many hours of instruction per day. How about the schools provide baby sitting services free of charge to all students until mommy can pick them up? Nah, that won't work because it still results in more cost to the district. What I meant by not OVER capacity, means that they are not FULL. Which also means that there are PLENTY of buses running. Maybe even more than needed.....so, more buses is not an option and would hardly make a difference except more traffic. I meant not to offend anyone, it just irritates me that there were posts stating that the buses should have figured out their routes by now....and Im just saying its not us. We do everything how we are supposed to and in the best timely manner we can. Not everyone can be pleased, though.

Well, let me correct myself after reading the letter again...Im not going to copy and paste the entire letter, but summarize every bit of information it says in a general sense. Dear Parent or Guardian, A SUSPECTED (rather than confirmed) case of h1n1 has been reported in your childs classroom. H1n1 also called the swine flu is a flu virus causing illness in people and more common in children. h1n1 causes symptoms similar to the seasonal flu: (goes on to name symptoms and how long they may last). Then underlined it says to keep your child home if he/she has fever or flu like symptoms. Your child will not be able to return to school until he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing meds. Next section titles THREE C's Clean Cover Contain and description of how to teach your child to keep germ free and not give germs to others. Final paragraph: Children between the ages of 6mo and 18 yrs should get the seasonal flu shot and h1n1 shot (when the vaccine is available later this month) (by the way, letter is dated oct 9th). Bus Driver, correct me if I am wrong. (Fat Chance) Bus routes are dictated not by the kids who actually RIDE the bus but by those who are elligible along that route. Thus, we may only see thirty kids on a forty passenger bus but the empty seats are reflective of kids on the routes whose parents take them, drive themselves or hitch with a friend. The ones that do run late on a regular basis are the ones that have an long elementary run, or their elementary dropoffs are on the other side of town....and Im sure everyone knows that when schools let out, it doesnt matter where you are in Granite, traffic is a nightmare, so it takes them longer than other buses to get to the school... Note: Some people dont know, but 98 percent of the buses have TWO runs to do. An elementary route, and either high school or middle school. PS, Some middle schoolers get picked up a little later than when school gets out for the same reason.

Pretty much. We have to run the routes all the time unless we get a specific notice from the school board to not pick up a particular child. Some parents who live out by Relleke Farm for example are nice enough to call in on days their child isnt going to ride. Unfortunately, that obviously changes on a day to day basis. So, Yes, you are right....because in the public schools parents are not required to tell us if their child is going to ride or not, we go by who is registered, and where they live and make our routes accordingly.

Dawn, think of it this way. If a half empty bus has to veer off the normal route to pick up a few stragglers, it's going to take the bus longer to get to point B. A solution would be for the district to implement their own policy for riding the buses, meaning they find out who is going to be riding the buses either by mail or phone or however they can contact the parents. Riding a school bus is a prividge not a right. If there are kids whose parents take them and/or pick them every day or use other means to get their kids to school everyday the school should know and they can take those kids off those routes, thus paving the way to redo some routes if possible. I can tell you if I was a parent of an elementary school child now I would rather my elementary school child wait at the school for a bus than my older child. Its safer for a younger child to wait at the school then to wait at home alone for their older sibling(s) to get home from a late drop off from hs or middle school. Well, thats much easier said than done. While I agree that would be a good idea, its highly unlikely that one or two children who get rides from parents every day will make a big difference on the timing of a bus getting around. More likely than not, there are other students who's bus stop is the same as the person who doesnt ride. By the way, we are always hiring, so if you'd like to really see how things are, come drive a bus.....then you might understand a little better.

I think people should never leave elementary age kid alone until an older sibling gets home. I disagree with kids that young being home alone....but then I think the safety practices of many Illinois schools are lacking as well. I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

GC Bus driver, since you know so much, here are a couple of questions for you. How is the time change of 10 minutes between High school and middle getting out affecting you guys? It used to be 20 minutes difference. Why do some of the buses at the High School now pick kids up in the Senior parking lot?

At the begining of the year we register our child as to what means of transportation will be used so thire should be some knowledge of who will be using the bus services. I do not know if this goes on distric wide. But Bus Driver I could use some work IM me with the contact info.

My kids have never had the luxury of riding of a bus but when all my kids were in school I depended on my high school daughter to walk home or walk to her brothers school to get them, where she watched them until one of us got home from work. This was and still is the ideal setup for many families, or should I say was. All I am saying is now that they decided to make the school hours different where the younger ones gets home before the older ones, (especially the bus riders) the school should make sure those older kids get on buses and move out quickly rather than having to wait on buses. And yes I know several families that this affects, where the younger kids are home well before their older siblings. Is it right, is it safe, probably not. But there isnt anyone who seems to really care that this and it goes on and the schools would rather just not think about it. Lisa, you are wrong again! Riding a bus is a right not a privelege. According to state law, any child living a specified idstance from a school must be guranteed the opportunity to ride a bus. Parents have the right to rufuse this offer but may change their mind. I'm sure the schools care about being left alone at homes and stops but there's very little more that can be done. Thats very nice. But it still doesnt address the problem the school district has with habitually late arriving buses to take kids home from high school! Again the school needs to be proactive and figure out a solution. Yes, its their job to figure it out. Obviously they dont care or it wouldnt still be happening at the high school in November. Another poster their said they have to declare at the school each year if their child(ren) are going to be using the bus that year. What a great idea! I think the choice should be given wether someone kid(s) are going to use the bus at the beginning of the year. That choice would be good for the year and the choice is made by the parents. Funny you should use the word comprehend. I'll type slower this time. Irregardless of what a parent does, a school district must provide transportation if a child is elligible. Not to mention there are probably few streets where only one child is picked up. Again, the whole idea of restructuring existing routes will more than likely not fix your problem. Once again, I ask you for good solutions to the problem. It's not just the school's problem. Come up with something besides your usual BS stepping around the issue. When the board boots kids off the bus for bad behavior they always say riding a school bus is a privilege not a right! Why is that? Are you telling me that the board is wrong in saying this? BTW its the schools job to find a solution not mine. They get paid to do those things. Obviously then dont care enough about the problem to do anything about it. You need to call the board office and correct them since you have found fault with what they have said in the past. Nope no link, no proof, just what I have read in the paper many times over the years. If you want proof for youself look it up online in the jounal archives. Make that call tomorrow and let me know what they say about kids who cant behave on the bus and tell me if they must still provide that unruly kid transportation! Lisa, look at it this way: You have the right to vote per the 19th amendment. However, if you commit a felony you lose that right. Same with bus service, you do something stupid while on the bus you lose that right. So based on the above I do not see any reason for me to call the board office and correct them since they are correct. Anything else? Yes--please call them and ask them to correct the bad situation that still exists with the school buses arriving late in the afternoon. Its a shame they care so little about young kids waiting for their older sibings to get home because the bus service we all pay for cannot get to the high school on time. Remind them that some families have young children from elementary schools waiting on their older silblings to get home. Obviously they have forgotten or simply dont care. The school code also provides for suspension from the bus for behavior. Are you as dumb as you appear or do you just do it on here for a show? She's beyond obvious. Eventually she will have to come up with some substantial ideas to support her rants. Still no answer Lisa. Come on, if the board doesn't care it's up to good upstanding citizens like you to develop the strategies to fix the problems. What does the district do about four or five late busses out of sixty or seventy? I offered the idea of more busses but that would cost money. Ready to give up your all you can eat breakfast at Denny's to pay your share? Come on now, come up with something. It must be easy. Great Idea! I am all for adding buses and costs! I will gladly pay more taxes to see that the kids of this school district are safe! Whats the alternative? The space cushion between HS and MS dismissal times really doesnt affect us as far as our route is concerned because there arent any buses that go to both. 98% of the buses all have an elementary route, and either high school, OR middle school. I will say personally that it makes it harder to maneuver around more kids when they are let out so close together. I am honestly not sure the exact reasoning of buses picking up in the senior lot, but I imagine its to lessen the crowd of buses in the other lot, and I know a couple of those buses have one of their routes near the steel mill area or drive through that area to get to their route. For example, bus 22 drops off and picks up in the sr. lot and picks up HS kids along 23rd street, 162, and in Emerald Meadows, and its elementary pick ups are Kirkpatrick Homes. I think it would probably just take long for the bus to go through the crowded traffic to go to the other side of the school....but like I said, thats what I think.

I would also like to make a point. I know it would convenient for schools to get out at certain times so older kids can either be home first or get there soon after little kids....BUT, the responsibility of the bus company is not to cater to everyones babysitting needs, but to transport the students safely. Period. Child care is of the parents responsibility.

HERES WHY THEY DONT CARE: They are responsible for your children during school hours, but after school, its the parents job to arrange child care. Not everyone is in a situation where they need an older child there first, if EVERYONE were, I think it'd be a higher priority, but I doubt it. So, please quit blaming the school board and buses for your inadequate child care situation. Its not for us to worry about.

Yeah but see Lisa, you may be only one of a few that would go along with a tax increase. If memory serves this community voted down a bond issue to fix up buildings. So what makes you think they would support a tax increase to haul kids, especially those who don't have kids who ride busses? I do commend you for volunteering though. Not to mention the fact that so many workers have been laid off and people are struggling to just put food on the table and keep the homes they have and you want to raise taxes and add more bus's to accomadate your daycare needs? Wow is all I can say. I have always worked and when my children were too young to stay home alone I paid a babysitter to watch them after school everyday. I always thought it was my responsibility to take care of my kids daycare needs. Never have I thought the school should be responsible in anyway. Be who you are and say what you feel..because those that matter don't mind..and those that mind..don't matter.

So lisa, what you are saying is that a person like me with no kids but paying school district taxes would have to pay MORE money so the kids that arent even yours will have more busses? Get a grip lady. You know what i had to do ti get to school?? I had to get out of my bed and WALK my a$$ to school. In elementary school, i lived across the street from school, so no big deal. and since i lived by Maryville road, according to the district, that was too close to the jr high and high school to be picked up by a bus. Who cares if it rained, who cares if my Freshman year it snowed so bad in January that our finals were moved back for an entire week. I had legs, i had to get to school, so i walked. I was an only child, no one was at my house after school to make sure i got home ok. and guess what? my parents house is still standing and i am not damaged. I was going to stay out of this for the simple fact that i have no kids, but lady you are getting just freaking stupid. Buses do what they do, get over it already. Move on. Find something worth b%*@$ing about. I speak my mind because it hurts to bite my tongue...

Boo, don't let her fool you. She'd be the first person in line to complain if taxes went up. As someone said, it's the responsiblity of the school to educate kids. When the kids are released for the day the schools make sure all busses arrive safely. It's not their job to monitor if they get to a certain drop off point on time. Take some responsiblity on your own folks. People like LivingInGranite at least make every PERSONAL effort to take care of her kids. Bus riders are at some disadvantage just due to the fact that they have to ride the bus. LOL! I just think common sense is a good thing. Most people are just trying survive. I know I have one kid left in H.S. and I don't want to pay anymore taxes then necessary. He did ride the bus last year but now I drop him off because with H.S. starting at 8 now I can drop him off on my way to work. For me it works out perfect. I drive right past the H.S. anyway every morning. I don't think raising taxes and adding more bus's is the answer. My other thought is if you want people to tell you if and when they are not going to ride the bus, who the heck is going to keep track of that? That would be a nightmare to even try to keep track of. Be who you are and say what you feel..because those that matter don't mind..and those that mind..don't matter.

OK here is my two cents. The school is not responsible for making sure the older kids are home for the younger ones. There are day care, neighbors and latch key programs for this. I had to do it when my daughter was younger and i worked. Now I also do not think it is ok for kids to wait everyday for buses that are late. If these same buses are the same ones that are late, something has to be done. 5 or even 10 minutes is not to bad, I am not sure how long they are waiting. If it is longer than 10 minutes everyday....the board does need to figure something out. I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

Never was an issue. Didnt need daycare or anyone to watch them after school. The hours schools had worked great. Obviously the school doesnt care about the situation with the habitually late buses at the high school nor will they do anything about it, they simply dont care. I feel sorry for the families who are in situations where the younger ones are home waiting on the older siblings. But life is tough and I guess families who cant afford daycare or dont anyone to watch their younger ones (because they work for a living) will have to do what they have to do. Sad when a school district cares so little about kids safety. Oh and btw we will paying taxes to the school long after our youngest kid is done in the district and yes I would be willing to pay more if it meant that school kids would be safer. Sad when a school district cares so little about kids safety. Yet you were upset because they put your kid in detention for wandering the hall when he wasnt supposed to. Every think that they did that for his safety? He could have fallen down the stairs and then you would have been screaming that they didnt care about his safety. You are complaining that high school kids are standing around after school... ever think that maybe the parents of those kids dont care? Move on. You know you parents that are complaining seriously what is your problem big question are you blind or just that d*** dumb the buses that you are refering to have to fight with traffic every day, construction, wrecks from idiots forgetting how to drive, not to mention the tons of railroad crossing in Granite, plus having to control the children who dont want to behave on a bus and bull other kids. I just want to make sure I am getting this straight. Lisa you don't have a kid that has ever had to ride a bus to or from school but your upset because they are running late. No no no--I am saying the school should be concerned that some school buses are still not making it on time to the high school to pick up kids and take them home and its Novemeber. I thought maybe it was an issue that was just because of the start of the school year and would get straighten out eventually. I live close to the high school and sometimes the high schoolers are waiting 15-25 minutes for their buses to arrive. We know families that rely on their older siblings to get home to watch their younger siblings until they arrive home from work. I just think that by now the school would have gotten this straightened . I know parents who have called both the school and the board about this but nothing changes. It appears as though its only a concern for the parents not the school district. No--its not the schools responsibilty to provide sitters or anything like that but you would think they would care about getting the high schoolers home as soon as possible without having them wait extra time after school to get their bus. No one can do anything about the younger ones getting home first-this is what the school wants and cant be changed but please at least for the families who rely on their older children to care for their younger ones until they arrive home, get those older ones that have to ride the buses home right after school rather than having to wait an additional 15-25 minutes to get on the bus after school. And yes I would be more than willing to pay more taxes to add more buses and routes. By all appearances it obvious the school doesnt care. I dont really care if anyone here cares or agrees with me or not. Fact is there is a problem with the buses at the high school habitually not arriving on time to take kids home. And people have called in and complained that it affects. You're right dumbass. The schools don't care. It's a secret plot to allow all those kids to get kidnapped at the end of the day so they don't come back the next day and bother the teachers. You never did offer up one realistic idea to solve the problem. You're a chronic complainer and you're probably the number one reason your kid is a failure. We know families that rely on their older siblings to get home to watch their younger siblings until they arrive home from work. I just think that by now the school would have gotten this straightened . the above is what you stated in your last post. These families that are relying on older siblings to watch younger ones need to make other arrangements period. Its not the schools problem. It's a daycare issue and that is a parents problem not the schools. I had the opposite problem when my kids were in Elementary school. School started I think around 8:50. Well I have to be at work at 8:00. It was my responsiblity to make sure someone was watching my kids before and after school. It was my responsiblity as a parent to PAY for someone to take care of my kids in my absense. It's part of the price you pay for being a working parent. The bottom line is the school district will never ever make everyone happy. It's impossible. Are they perfect? No I don't think so but to say they aren't concerned about the saftey of our kids isn't a fair statement. You are entitled to gripe on here all you want and you are entitled to your own opinion but this doesn't make any sense to me. Be who you are and say what you feel..because those that matter don't mind..and those that mind..don't matter.

WHM, Lisa, through her twisted hatred of Mr. Greenwald and a few other school officials will never think the school district cares. She concludes that since there is nothing being done about a very small problem, that the schools simply don't care. I conclude that her son, who she admitted, walked away from a disciplinary situation at school, has no respect for authority. I further conclude that he has no respect for said authority because at home he is being led around by a mother of low quality and apparently a father who has no backbone either. Opie--your an ass! All my kids are huge successes at school and if you truely knew them you would know this! You are a gutless puke (your words!) who doesnt know his head from his ass. Fact is the school does not care about this problem. I know this and the parents who it affects knows this. Nothing will be done about it obviously. My opinion is that you are a gutless puke who know nothing of my or my husbands parenting skills. You do however know I have a daughter who has graduated from college and also a son in college who is doing great and a son who is in advanced classes at the high school who is also doing great!!We must be doing something right because we have successful kids, how about your kids? You never talk about them, you must not be a proud parent. My guess is your kids dont want anyone to know who you are because your such an ass. I do not think the bus problem is a safety issue. It is inconvenient if the same kids are waiting up to 25 minutes for a bus to get home. That said, there is public transportation. When my daughter was in the high school, she took the public bus home because it got her home faster. I do think they need to figure something out though, but in the mean time, there are public buses and even friends....there has to be some solution for the problem of kids waiting that long....as for a solution, I don't know enough about the problem to really offer anything....Maybe something like making sure the buses doing double routes are the ones dropping elementary kids off closer to the middle and high school and the ones not doing double routes do the farther away routes? I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...

Dawn, You and I believe there is a solution and I would have hoped a solution would have be acted on by now. Thanks for being civil. People here think I have some kind of vendetta against the school district, I do not. I see a problem which affects people we know (although not us) and brought it up quite a while back and the people here on this site who cant stand anything negative brought up about the school district jump on me like I am trying to start something. There are people who this problem affects and like you know not everyone is on GCG to talk about it and people here think its just me complaining. People we know who this affects have called the school and the board with no results. I assume nothing is going to be done and accept this fact for what it is. I just think shows lack of concern on the schools part. Im glad you acknowledge that the child care issue is of a parent, but no matter how we switch the schools around, elementary first or elementary last, someones going to be getting picked up late. Unless of course they started and ended school times at least an hour apart, but im sure that would cause some inconvenience to some parents as well......Any solutions now??

Other districts don't have buses that run 25 minutes late, if they can do it, I am sure Granite can too. This has not always been an issue, so maybe we need to look at how it was done in the past? I'd rather be hated for what I am than to be loved for what I am not...
