As the new Executive Director at MESD, I want to assure you that while preventing all flooding is nearly impossible, we will manage the Horseshoe/Long Lake watershed as proactively as we can in an effort to reduce the impact of localized flooding.

The last pump MESD needs to add capacity to our system is being paid for by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is scheduled to arrive April 16. With the help of our Pump Foreman Mr. Scott Hillman, and associated MESD staff, we are pumping well over 1 million gallons of stormwater over the levees each minute at this moment.

MESD and it's employees are grateful to Chairman Prenzler and all the local elected officials who contributed to make these pump repairs a priority, as well as St. Louis District Army Corps Colonel Bryan Sizemore and his staff.

It would be a wet spring indeed were it not for their help.
